SINGAPORE - At least two trees in separate locations were toppled yesterday
during afternoon showers, leaving one person injured.
At around 11.30am, a tree in Sentosa was uprooted and crashed onto the roof
of a covered walkway, near escalators leading up from Merlion Plaza to Imbiah
Lookout.
A 65-year-old woman was believed to have been waiting for someone when the
tree crashed through the metal roof. A Singapore Civil Defence Force spokesman
said the woman was slightly injured in the incident, and complained of neck and
back pains. She was taken to the Singapore General Hospital.
The Sentosa spokesman said that trees on the island are checked by its
environment and landscape team, which covers various sections of the island in
its day-to-day operations.
"The fallen tree was last checked about three weeks ago," she added.
