ONLINE travel review site TripAdvisor has named the top 25 hotels in Asia in
the 2012 Travelers' Choice Awards.
The 10th annual awards is the website's biggest awards to date as it
expanded categories from 'Top 10' to 'Top 25', honouring 3,943 properties in
some 30 countries.
TripAdvisor spokesperson Jean Ow-Yeong said: "We're thrilled to grow our
awards with winner lists for twice as many markets globally."
Winners were selected based on more than 60 million reviews and opinions, as
well as ratings on the popularity index.
The results were analysed using an algorithm similar to that used by the
TripAdvisor Popularity Index, which takes into account the property's overall
quality for categories such as Best Luxury, Bargain, Best for Service, B&Bs and
Inns, All-inclusive, Spa and Trendiest. The quantity and recency of reviews
were also taken into consideration.
While we will not (yet) reveal to you which hotel clinched the top region
prize, we will tell you that the stunning property is located in Udaipur,
India.
Hotel properties in Thailand were a favourite among travellers as seven made
the list of 25. Maldivian properties were also well-liked with five hotels
featured.
