MANILA - Four Philippine Airlines flights to and from Taipei were canceled Thursday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport due to bad weather on the Taiwan island where Typhoon "Gener" (international name: Saola) had made a landfall.
The heavy rains and strong winds at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport have also resulted delays at least five international flights to and from Taipei, according to the Manila International Airport Authority, state operator of NAIA.
At the NAIA Terminal 2 PAL flight PR 896, which was supposed to leave for Taipei at around 7 am Thursday was canceled. The return trip, PR 897, which was supposed to arrive in Manila at around 1 pm, was also cancelled.
Flight PR 898 to Taipei, which was supposed to leave NAIA at 2 pm was also cancelled; consequently, the return trip, PR 899, set to arrive at NAIA at around 8 pm was also cancelled.
At NAIA Terminal 1, at least two international carriers that have also departure to or from Taipei were canceled due to the bad weather.
Eva Air's BR 271 was supposed to arrive at NAIA from Taipei at around 11:40 am but instead was able to do so at around 1:15 pm. Its return trip to Taipei, BR 272, was supposed to leave NAIA at around 12:45 pm, but instead was only able do so at around 2:30 pm.
China Airlines' CI 701 from Taipei was supposed to arrive at NAIA at 9:35 am. but did so two hours later. Its return trip to Taipei, CI 702, originally scheduled to 10:35 am was reset to 12:40 pm The 3:30 pm arrival of its return trip to Manila, CI 703, was also reset to 7:15 pm
