To celebrate its 40th birthday, Sentosa will be having a Open Day with special activities and performances.

SINGAPORE - Local tourist attraction Sentosa will be opening its doors to everyone for Open Day celebrations on Sept 1 to mark its 40th birthday.

Visitors who enter the island via the Broadwalk or the Sentosa Express will enjoy free admission on Open Day, which falls on a Saturday.

In addition, Singapore residents who also turn 40 years old this year can visit Sentosa for free in August and September.

To celebrate the festivities, there will be five zones of activities, performances and promotions with something for all ages.

Children can head to the Ice Playground at Palawan Beach where there will be two ice slides, measuring 5m and 8m high.

At the Beach Plaza, visitors may admire sand sculptures and catch a glimpse of old favourites like Fantasy Island. The tallest sculpture at 2.5m high will depict Sentosa's transformation from an idyllic fishing village to an island resort destination.

Guests can catch buskers, dancers and stilt walkers in colourful balloon costumes at the Merlion Plaza, which will feature a 3D light show in the evening and culminate in a firework display. Cupcakes will be given out, while stocks last.

The 'Sentosa Buskers Festival' also returns for the third year, and will feature a clown juggler and a strong woman crushing apples with her biceps. The festival, which will take place at Sentosa-Habourfront, will extend to Resorts World Sentosa and Mount Faber, said the Sentosa Leisure Group in a statement to the media.

Sentosa will also be organising its first flea market at the Sentosa Boardwalk where proceeds collected from booth rentals will be donated to charity.

Guests who are born in 1972 can experience the Sentosa 4D Magix and Skyline Luge for free, while all guests will enjoy a 40 per cent discount on tickets to Images of Singapore, Fort Siloso, the Merlion and Songs of the Sea.
