IT'S nice to see Puduraya getting a facelift. And it’s good to have our Prime Minister making the rounds there to boost public morale (“Najib happy with Puduraya upgrade”)
For me, however, the main put-off there is the touts. If you have been to Puduraya, you will know how rampant the touts are and how difficult it is to brush them off.
Locals know how to ignore them. My concern is for the foreign tourists and out-of-towners. As the main bus hub of Kuala Lumpur, there is little chance that they will be able to give Puduraya a miss.
While our Tourism Ministry is going all out to promote Malaysia, touts, lack of enforcement and the taxi drivers (who blatantly refuse to use the meter) will only give Malaysia a bad name.
One article in a traveller’s blog really drove home the point (surf to www.paulstravelblog.com and search for Malaysia).
The refuse-to-use-meters attitude can be found in all the major tourist spots in the city. I’ve personally experienced that treatment in Puduraya, Petaling Street, KLCC and MidValley and I am local.
Someone, please drive home this message to our Prime Minister.
