KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan - Kaohsiung City will begin offering amphibious vehicle tours on a trial basis next month with an aim to officially launch the service in January 2010, a city official said Tuesday.
The vehicle used will be an imported duck boat that is now being painted and will be ready for test rides in December, according to Ou Hsiu-ching, a city official in charge of transportation affairs.
Free tickets for the duck boat test rides will be offered to people who book to stay at the city's hotels and take its ferry tours, Ou said.
Starting next January, the duck boat tours will be officially launched, with a capacity of 180 passengers daily, Ou said.
Ticket prices will be NT$300 per person and the tours will be available from 12 noon to 5 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday, he added.
The tours will cover 20 minutes of sightseeing on land and 40 minutes on water, which would allow passengers to take in the spectacular scenery of Lotus Lake, a man-made lake that is a popular tourist destination in the city, according to Ou.
The city is expected to take delivery of a second duck boat before April 2010, Ou added.
