Tourism in Perak gets boost

IPOH, MALAYSIA - The Perak Tourism Council will be revived to promote the state's tourism industry by introducing new flagship programmes.

It will have representatives from government agencies and private bodies. The key supporting organisations will be the Perak Economic Planning Unit and Institut Darul Ridzuan (IDR).

State Industry, Investment, Entrepreneur Development, Tourism and Women Affairs committee chairman Datuk Hamidah Osman said the revival of the council would provide a common platform for all to work together.

"The first task of the council is to prepare and implement the state tourism strategic action plan," she said yesterday.

lDR will oversee the preparation of the plan. The consultants include the founding partner of Tourism Resource Consultants Ltd of New Zealand, Lester David Clark, and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia professor in tourism Amran Hamzah.
