PUTRAJAYA: Once the Saudi Arabian government sanctions AirAsia Bhd's proposal to fly to Jeddah, Muslims across Asia will be able to enjoy low fare flights to that city.
This was the reply from AirAsia group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes to a question after he delivered a speech to almost 3,000 participants at the last day of the inaugural Youth Engagement Summit (YES) 2009.
"The Saudi Arabian government is very open and I'm sure by next year we will be seeing AirAsia flying passengers to Jeddah."
At the summit themed "Southeast Asia Youth for CHANGE", Fernandes told the youth to dream the impossible and never take no for an answer in working to achieve their goals.
He said AirAsia had come a long way from its inception in 2001 because it was constantly changing to suit current needs and was never static.
Much to the surprise of the crowd, Fernandes gave away two air tickets for free before he began speaking at the summit. The low-cost airline was recently ranked as one of the top 50 most innovative companies in the world by Fast Magazine.
The two-day event was later closed by organising chairman Harmandar Singh.
