Malaysia Airlines wins awards for consistent front-line performance, says UK organisation.
PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA - It was a double celebration for Malaysia Airlines (MAS) when it was presented with the “5-Star Airline” and the “World’s Best Cabin Staff” awards by Skytrax.
MAS has obtained the five-star rating from Skytrax, a UK-based organisation with 20 years’ experience in airline research, since 2005 while its cabin crew became tops in 2001-2004, 2007, 2009-2010 – the most for any airline.
MAS managing director and chief executive Tengku Datuk Azmil Zahruddin said it was great news especially in today’s tough environment.
“Our cabin crew have done a stellar job, and they have continuously held the MAS and Malaysian flag high in the highly competitive aviation industry. They epitomise the best of Malaysian hospitality,” he added.
Azmil also said the airline would be rolling out new services such as flight services from buying, boarding and disembarkation on mobile and enhanced online redemption of Enrich points.
“We will also be taking delivery of the new 737-800 Boeing Sky Interior (aircraft) by the end of 2010.
“Customers will enjoy better ambience, higher ceilings, mood lighting, in-flight entertainment on every business and economy-class seats and the latest generation light-weight seats. Mobile connectivity services will be offered in the future,” he added.
Skytrax chief executive Edward Plaisted said the awards recognised MAS’ consistent front-line performance.
MAS was also recently voted “Asia’s Leading Airline” by over 180,000 industry professionals in a global poll conducted by the World Travel Awards.
Other awards it received this year include Airline of the Year by Malaysia Airport Holding Bhd, third in Top Performing Company by Aviation Week and eighth in Top Airlines Worldwide Category by Smart Travel Asia.
