JOHOR BARU: Although Johor has many places of interest, poor facilities and maintenance are keeping tourists away, the House heard.
Tan Cher Puk (BN-Johor Jaya) said Johor’s clean beaches, beautiful islands, historic landmarks and lush forests did not have adequate or good basic amenities.
He said that although the government spent money to develop these places, poor maintenance made them lose their appeal.
"Take Desaru beach for example," he said, "the view of the ocean and clean beaches are spectacular.
"However, after a person goes for a swim at the beach, it is difficult to find a proper shower area with hooks to hang clothes and towels," he said, adding that these inconveniences could ruin the mood of holiday-makers.
