KUALA TERENGGANU, MALAYSIA - Terengganu has succeeded in dispelling the misconception that the monsoon season is not the right time to visit the state for a holiday.
Monsoon Cup director Datuk Wan Hisham Wan Salleh said Terengganu has become a favourite all-year round destination for holidaymakers.
He said that prior to the staging of the first Monsoon Cup in 2005, there were fewer domestic and foreign arrivals during the monsoon season.
He said hotels recorded poor occupancy rates while businesses were running at a loss, but since the debut of the Monsoon Cup, most hotels have been recording full occupancy.
“And for this year I have been told that most hotels in the city are fully booked,” he said here yesterday.
Wan Hisham said the organiser had lined up several exciting activities for the Monsoon Cup this year with the race turned into a carnival to attract tourists and locals to witness the prestigious regatta.
Wan Hisham said the event would place Terengganu in the global spotlight when the race is telecast live worldwide on Dec 5 and Dec 6.
