SINGAPORE on Tuesday signed a new air services agreement with Nepal, at the sidelines of the Singapore Airshow 2010.

Under the agreement, air carriers of Singapore and Nepal will be entitled to operate 28 weekly passenger services, the Ministry of Transport said in a news release. 14 of these weekly passenger services can be operated via some intermediate points and to a few beyond points in third countries.

SilkAir currently operates six weekly passenger services between Singapore and Kathmandu.

Mr Choi Shing Kwok, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, who signed the new Agreement with his Nepalese counterpart, Mr Nagendra Prasad Ghimire, Secretary for Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation of Nepal, said, "The Singapore-Nepal aviation market has experienced strong traffic growth over the past few years. The bilateral Air Services Agreement signed today comes at an opportune time as it serves to further develop air transport between both countries and pave the way for traffic growth ahead."
