CAMERON HIGHLANDS - The state government has identified two areas suitable for the construction of a new international airport.

Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah said, the areas identified were in Cherating and Pekan, the state’s royal town.

He said both areas were equally suitable to locate an international airport.

“If the airport was built in Cherating, it could benefit people in Terengganu as well, for the town was close to Kemaman.

Pahang has many tourist attractions for nature and adventure lovers because of its islands and highlands.

“It is an ideal location for an international airport,” said the Ruler in his speech at the opening of Cameron Highlands Golf Club here yesterday.

Sultan Ahmad Shah was responding to Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, who said in her speech earlier, that there was a need for Pahang to have an international airport.

It was to cater for the increasing number of foreign tourists to the state.

The Ruler said, he hoped that the Federal Government would look into the proposal, adding that the state was supportive of the idea.

“It is up to the Prime Minister to decide. As the head of the state, I fully support the idea for the benefit of my people” he said.
