WITH effect from April 1, travellers entering Singapore will enjoy greater flexibility in their duty-free liquor allowances.

Instead of being restricted to one litre each of beer, wine and spirits, as currently permitted, travellers will be able to substitute for an additional one litre of wine or one litre of beer in lieu of one litre of spirits.

The change applies to both the bringing in and purchase of liquor upon arrival to the Republic.

Travellers who exceed the allowances have to make a declaration and pay duty and taxes on the excess quantities, as required under the Customs and GST Acts.

Payment can be made at either the Tax Payment Kiosks located at Changi Airport or at the Singapore Customs Tax Payment offices.
