TAIPEI, TAIWAN -- The Tourism Bureau launched a new sightseeing tour bus service Monday enabling tourists to cheaply and easily travel to famous scenic spots around Taiwan, bureau officials announced yesterday.
The bus services run every 60 minutes during weekdays and every 30 minutes at weekends, with the distinctive red bus stops providing bus information in both Chinese and English, according to the bureau.
A total of 20 bus lines are planned for 10 counties and cities, with nine of them scheduled to begin service immediately.
To promote the services, the Jiaosi and Dung Shan River lines in Yilan County are offering free services until December, while in Tainan City, the Anping and the Taijiang lines are providing free services until July.
The other lines that began operating Monday are the Cihu Line in Taoyuan County, the Sun Moon Lake Line in Nantou County, the Alishan Line in Chiayi County, the City Tour Line in Chiayi City, and the Kenting Line in Pingtung County.
The fare on the Kenting Line, which connects the High Speed Rail station in Kaohsiung and ends in Kenting, is NT$407 (S$17.95) — the most expensive of all the new lines.
