KUALA LUMPUR - A dispute between several KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) tour operators and Malaysia Airport Berhad (MAB) was resolved yesterday. The tour agency operators will now be allowed to resume their business within the week.

"At the end of May, the contract of 18 operators of car rental, hotel and tour service operators were terminated by MAB," said Cacinjo Holidays Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Dr Joshua Peter Tan.

Speaking on behalf of the tour agency operators, Tan said the reason given was to reduce touts at the airport.

"Without genuine operators, touts will still be there," he said, adding that the operators had nothing to do with the touts.

Tan added that there was a plan to open another information counter but pointed out there were already plenty at the airport.

"The most important thing is to make sure tourists are provided services as soon as they clear immigration.

"Thankfully, the problem has been resolved after we appealed to the tourism and transport ministries," he said after meeting representatives from both ministries.

Tan also urged the authorities to eradicate touts at the airport soon.

"It has been 11 years and yet the problem persists," he said.
