WELL-known for its affable personalities like Ian Wright and Janet Hsieh, Discovery’s Travel & Living channel in Asia-Pacific will be rebranded on September 1 to become TLC, which will offer viewers an expanded choice of new programmes and old favourites.
TLC first kicked off internationally in Norway in March and - with its strong focus on travel, cooking, the environment, home improvement and human interest stories - is rated a top ten channel in the US for women.
With its Asia-Pacific debut this Wednesday, TLC will run a 5-hour ‘marathon’ of sneak-previews of shows which will be screened later this year. For Singaporean viewers, this will air from 6pm to 11pm on Starhub channel 427.
Here are some of the highlights of Wednesday’s sneak marathon:
- MARCO PIERRE WHITE: THE CHOPPING BOARD Eight couples volunteer to compete in a culinary competition with a US$250,000 prize to fund their own restaurant.
- BEST FOOD EVER Narrated by John Goodman, this culinary tour will take viewers across the US in search of the top ten food destinations in a specific category.
- GLOBETREKKER 14 Each episode documents the journeys of vibrant young travel guides as they sample local delicacies, stay in lodgings and interact with residents. Destinations in the new season include Antarctica, Syria, Nigeria and Turkey.
With the revamp, TLC will continue to air its trademark travel and cuisine shows like Fun Taiwan, Globe Trekker, Glutton for Punishment and Bizzare Foods with Andrew Zimmern.
