NOT content with sharing the spotlight, the much-loved Hello Kitty character got a theme park of its own last Friday.

"Hello Kitty's Kawaii Paradise", an 891-square metre indoor attraction has opened in the Venus Fort shopping complex in Odaiba, Tokyo, the Kyodo News agency reported.

A giant planterium-like theatre which projects ‘constellations’ of Hello Kitty and other Sanrio-created characters, alongside pancakes in the shape of Hello Kitty will be some of the highlights visitors can expect. A selection of shops and restaurants will complete the cute, or “Kawaii” offerings.

Hello Kitty, conceived by Sanrio in 1974, is featured in two other theme parks - Harmonyland in Kyushu and Sanrio Puroland in Tokyo - but “Kawaii Paradise” marks the first time an entire attraction is dedicated to it.

Its operator, PleasureCast Co, targets to attract 700,000 visitors in its first year of operation, Xinhua reported.

This includes tourists from Asia, said Kyodo, and the park is sparing no effort in taking a multi-lingual approach, screening programs in its theatre in Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese and English.

Venus Fort complex, where the park is housed, is a 15-minute bus ride from Haneda Airport and no more than 30 minutes from downtown Tokyo by train.
