Shopping in Bangkok
Times square is a must go! The apparel sold there is stylish but a lot cheaper in pricing. Siam paragon
and MBK shopping centreEmporium would be a good choice for high-end shopping
Price range: negotiable. one shirt could actually cost 2 SGD
Chatuchak is also a good place to shop at when you go to bangkok. it is the largest weekend market in
thailand
! they even sell live animals there!
I've been reading about backpacking in travel magazines and I wish to backpack someday, most probably in SE.Asia. As a beginner in backpacking, any tips that I should keep in mind?
For adventure and great scenery, go to either of these 3 places. The scenery is amazing and what makes up the country are the smiley people and their cultural values. For Laos, I recommend that you concentrate in North Laos as it is much cheaper than in the South. Also, getting off the track in remote villages should let you enjoy prices like they were 3 years ago. Remember to great people whom you meet in Laos "Sabaidy" before you start talking. It would be considered impolite otherwise. It may cost a little bit more but backpacking is more about the adventure than the money. There's plenty to see/do, cheap, easy and fairly safe.

I usually spend 3 weeks travelling around a country. Before you set off, I suggest that you do your homework to know about the country's sites of interests. A good guide book, such as Lonely Planet or Rough Guide will give you all the facts that you require to plan an itinerary. Here are some things that I recommend you should pack: 1) Bring a cheap phone that you're not attached to 2) Camera with multiple memory cards 3) A microfiber towel (it's humid in SE.Asia) 4) A sarong (useful when it's cold or when you're visiting temples/places of worship) 5) Anything that you're comfortable wearing at home Do not bring fancy, thief-attracting stuff. Once stolen, it might just dampen your spirits to enjoy your first backpacking trip.
Besides its beaches, are there other places on Phuket I can visit when I go there with my parents? - Timothy Teh
Phuket town's main market is full of Thai and Malay sarongs and yummy Thai snacks, so that has to be on your itinerary. The eateries and restaurants, serving seafood and vegetarian fare among others, are also worth trying, not least because the food is cheap. If the usual beach and water activities such as diving, snorkelling and kayaking are not suitable for your parents, take a four-wheel-drive tour of the island with an elephant ride for about 2,200 baht (S$93) a day. Half-day trips are also available at Siam Safari (www.siamsafari.com).

You could also check out Bang Nam Phung Floating market though it is kind of dirty i suppose? They sell stuff like accessories clothes to even household appliances.
Phuket is not only known for their beaches but also their ceramics and handmade crafts.
For those interested in refurnishing your house in Zen style, you could purchase your furniture at Phuket with authentic handcraft at a lower price than Barang barang!
You would probably have to go through DHL and it would depend on the mass and size of your shipment back. But all in all, it is much cheaper than the furniture sold in certain stores in Singapore, definitely a good buy! Furthermore, the quality of the products are really good.
Booby traps in Bangkok 'Tiger shows'.The popular, or should I say infamous Tiger shows in Bangkok are usually 'free' but apparently that is not the case. My friends and I bought the tickets through a 'bulk system' for four and paid an average of 20 SGD per person. What's more, the drinks there are exorbitantly priced!Location: Patpong, BangkokPrice : pay nothing more thant 20 SGD
He said, it should be only for tourists.. not for local people.. and what's more there won't be natural tigers in that area. So maybe we should clear the price before we order? and he is still skeptical.... was there any tigers there?? It is the center of Bangkok!

I totally get what you are talking about. They tend to target tourists, especially those that are there for the first time. You know what's worse? There was once they made me pay like 200 SGD for just 'talking' to the girls. It was a total rip off!

There was once one of the girls made me buy them a soft drink and it cost me $100 (sgd) Thankfully, you get to bargain but not too much or their 'gangs' may turn up! Oh and beware cause they ALWAYS offer extra services if you get what i mean hahaaa
