Hi, I need information on Ho Chi Minh during Chinese New Year. Are shops closed during that time? Is it better to follow tours or proceed on our own?

HCM during CNY
Ho Chi Minh City was crazy during the CNY and the days leading up to it. Le Loi at night had the center lanes blocked off for pedestrians only. The parks were really packed with people.
My advice is that if you've been to HCM before and you really know your way there, of course, you can proceed on your own. But if you're a newbie tourist there, it's better to follow tours.
Well, I'm sure you don't want to get lost in another city when celebrating CNY.

Plan ahead
Tourists planning a trip to Ho Chi Minh City during the Lunar New Year must be well prepared.
Lodging, shopping and availing transport can be a little difficult during this season as it is believed to be the most important celebration of the year for the Vietnamese people.
Hotels and flights sell out and shops and attractions close. So yes, shops are closed during CNY. Book everything well in advance.
