Fukuoka is known for its slurp-worthy
ramen in pork rib broth also called
tonkotsu. It is available at mobile food
stalls, or yatai, found everywhere in
the streets of Tenjin, Nagahama-Dori
and Nakasu.
The yummy spicy mentaiko, or cod
roe, is also a must-try at the JR Hakata
Station or at department stores. Also
check out the gyozas, or pork dumplings.
Food aside, the Fukuoka Sky Dream
Ferris Wheel at Marinoa Plaza offers
views of the city and nearby islands,
while Hakata Machiya Folk Museum is
a great place to learn about the local
life.
For shopping, go to Tenjin, where
there are malls both above and underground
selling kitschy gifts and funky
boutiques full of trendy Japanese fashion.
